Many of our clients are keen to discover how to care for their windows after we have applied a quality film to reduce UV glare and increase privacy. Fortunately, cleaning your windows after a film has been applied is not that difficult but you do need to be a little more careful so we decided to put together this short guide for all of our customers, and anybody else who may recently have had their windows tinted.

The Golden Rules for Cleaning Window Film

Follow these rules and you will be able to keep your windows looking good while ensuring that your new commercial or  residential window film remains in excellent condition for many years to come.

• Absolutely No Cleaning for 30 Days – The most important thing to bear in mind after your windows have been coated with a protective film is to leave them alone for 30 days. Do not clean them in any way during this period because the film needs time to cure properly before it is exposed to large quantities of water. If heavy rainfall occurs while your window tinting is curing there is no need to panic but it may extend the curing process.
• No Abrasive Cloths or Cleaning Products – After 30 days, you may clean your windows with a soft, damp cloth. A chamois or microfibre cloth is a good choice but any soft, non-shedding material should be fine. The main thing to bear in mind is that abrasive materials are likely to damage the film and should therefore be avoided at all costs. With this in mind, you should also steer clear of any powdered detergent or scrubbing brushes. Even paper towels could scratch your window film if you are not careful.
• Use a Mild Dishwashing Liquid – The best way to ensure that the cleaning fluids you use do not damage the film is to stick to mild dishwashing detergent. Strong enough to remove greasy marks but mild enough to be safe, any reputable brand should be fine for this purpose.
• Avoid Detergents Containing Ammonia – Make sure that the detergent you use to clean your window film in Perth does not contain any ammonia as this could damage the coating. The main problem with ammonia as far as window film is concerned is the fact that over time it will dissolve the adhesive that keeps the film in close contact with the glass, thereby severely shortening its useful lifespan. Vinegar may also degrade the adhesive so should be avoided for the same reasons.

Further Information Concerning New Installations

There are a couple of facts regarding new window film installations in Perth of which you should be aware, to save you any unnecessary worry:

• Your New Film May Look Hazy at First – It is quite normal for window tinting to have a milky or hazy appearance immediately after it has been applied. This is nothing to worry about and will clear within a matter of days. The hazy appearance is caused by water that is trapped between the film and the glass, which will evaporate as the film cures.
• Small Particles May Be Visible on Close Inspection – Because our Perth window film installations are naturally not carried out in a controlled, dust-free environment, some small particles will inevitably be trapped under your new film. These will not be noticeable under normal viewing conditions and will in no way negatively affect the performance of your new window tinting.
